A generic document covering the movement of goods by any mode of transport (sea, air, land, or rail) that is an indispensable requirement for customs clearance.
A transport document is the legal instrument covering the movement of goods from the point of origin to the destination, issued by the carrier or their agent. Its specific form varies by mode of transport: bill of lading (ocean), air waybill (air), waybill/carta porte (land/rail). It is an indispensable requirement for customs clearance.
Article 36-A of Mexico's Customs Law establishes that the transport document must accompany the pedimento. Without it, customs clearance cannot proceed.
The transport document contains key traceability information: origin, destination, description, weight, volume, container or transport unit number, and the parties involved in the logistics operation.
