A temporary tariff is a transitional modification of the normal tariff rate applying to certain goods, established by decree of the Federal Executive. It is used as an economic policy instrument to respond to circumstances such as input shortages, inflationary pressures, health emergencies, or natural disasters. Temporary tariffs can be reductions (to cheapen imports) or increases (to protect domestic production). They have a defined validity period and require publication in the Official Gazette.
