An import prohibition is the most restrictive foreign trade measure, completely preventing certain goods from entering national territory. Reasons may include public health protection (illicit drugs, banned toxic substances), national security (weapons of mass destruction), environmental protection (ozone-depleting substances), public morality (child exploitation material), or international treaty compliance (CITES, Basel Convention). In Mexico, prohibitions are established in the Customs Law, Foreign Trade Law, and international treaties.
