A customs inspection (reconocimiento aduanero) in Mexico is the physical and documentary examination of goods performed by customs authorities to verify that merchandise matches what was declared in the pedimento. It is triggered when the automated selection mechanism produces a red result.
The automated selection mechanism determines whether goods are inspected: green = free release, red = customs inspection. Typically 10-15% of entries are selected for inspection.
