Establishes phytosanitary requirements for importing sawn wood, wood packaging, and wood products, including compliance with International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM-15) for packaging.

Compliance steps

Identify product type

Determine if the product is packaging (requires ISPM-15) or industrial wood (requires phytosanitary certificate).

Apply treatment

Perform heat treatment (HT) at 56C for 30 minutes or methyl bromide fumigation per ISPM-15.

Obtain marking or certificate

For packaging: obtain ISPM-15 marking. For industrial wood: obtain phytosanitary certificate.

4

Import documentation

Prepare necessary documentation including permits, certificates, and commercial invoice.

5

Customs inspection

SENASICA personnel will verify ISPM-15 marking or certificate and perform physical inspection.

Penalties for non-compliance

Shipment detention, mandatory treatment at importer's expense, return or destruction of goods, and fines up to 50,000 UMA.
