Industry Context: Leather, hides, and furskins

Chapters 41 through 43 cover hides, skins, leather, furskins, and articles thereof. Mexico has a significant leather industry, particularly in states like Guanajuato and Jalisco. Classification depends on the animal type, tanning process applied, and product form (raw hide, tanned leather, finished article). Duties increase progressively with the degree of processing. Imports of hides and skins are subject to SEMARNAT regulations when from endangered species (CITES) and sanitary certifications for raw skins.
